ABOUT BFD Our department is comprised of 86 sworn personnel, starting with the Fire Chief, 2 Assistant Fire Chiefs, 3 Deputy Chiefs, 1 Training Battalion Chief, 1 EMS Battalion Chief, 1 Fire Prevention Specialist/Fire Investigator, 1 Fire Marshal, and 2 Administrative staff. BFD operates with 4 Engine companies, 1 Tiller ladder truck with a ladder tender, 1 Squad truck, and 1 Brush truck. Along with the ladder truck, it co-mans a support truck that responds to any special operation emergencies. Emergency medical incidents comprise of 80% of the call volume. Fires and other customer service related calls comprise of the remaining 20% and range from vehicle lockouts to lift assists. BFD offers Advanced Life Support (ALS) services on every engine, ladder, and squad company. Each company carries a minimum of two paramedics at all times. Currently, 49 of the 86 sworn fire department members are certified paramedics. Medical transportation services are subcontracted through the Buckeye Valley Fire District. Besides fire suppression and emergency medical services, BFD operates a Technical Rescue Team (for high angle, confined space, tree, structural collapse, and swift water rescue). The department also is in the process to put together a Hazardous Materials Team to respond with the TRT team. BFD takes part in many public education programs throughout the different communities as well as other community enhancement programs.
