Political Importance When thinking back about all the reasons that I wanted to become a firefighter, becoming involved in politics never crossed my mind. In fact I did not even know that the two had anything to do with each other. The mayor and town council are responsible for many decisions that affect all of our fire department members. The P.F.F.A. endorses candidates that are in the best interest of the fire department and that also have a chance at winning the election. Our fire department members are limited in their involvement in the election process because of a hatch law. The hatch law is the reason that we will donate money and pound signs in another city to help get a candidate elected. In return another union will donate money to our candidates and pound signs to help us get a candidate elected. Building relationships with the mayor and town council will only have positive effects in the future for our members. Our union being involved in the town and volunteering at events is equally important. I am sure that many of us did not think about political importance when becoming a firefighter but it is. I would like to see all of our members vote in every election. For those of you that live in Buckeye please make sure that you are registered and go vote on March 11, 2008. If you have any questions about the candidates we endorsed and why get a hold of me. David Burtch Local 4311 Political Trustee I wanted to take this opportunity to send you an e-mail and ask that you pass it along to the Buckeye Firefighters that showed up in support of my campaign. I am very proud to say that your team continued to show up (in the heat) time and time again for canvassing and then when we needed a last minute crew, it was Buckeye that gave their time and effort. As you know, I will continue another four years as mayor and I couldn't have done it without your help. I will definitely sing your praises to your council, your chief and of course the Avondale firefighters. I know they appreciate your efforts as well. Again, please know how very much you all mean to me. Thank you so much for your hard work, your dedication and the love of your careers. Please stay safe and if I may be of service to you, please do not hesitate to call. All my best, Mayor Marie Lopez Rogers 623-329-6030 (c) |
